You can save £100's with this quick and simple hack

One small job now. One massive cost saving in the summer.

With the forecast dipping below freezing over the next week or so, you really need to act now in protecting you garden.

Frost can permanently damage and even kill some of your delicate plants and foliage.

If you have some bigger trees that aren't native to the UK, they could well need protection too.

If you can move your fragile plants indoors, to a greenhouse or cold frame then great, do that!

Here are 7 plants that need protection over winter and how to do it. This is not a comprehensive list but a great place to start.

Agapanthus

Try and keep your agapanthus in pots. Wrap the pots in fleece or store under glass when the frost hits. Add mulch around hardy deciduous agapanthus, planted in borders.

Cordyline

If you can't move yours, tie the leaves in an upright bunch and then wrap with fleece or hessian strips.

Olives

They look wonderful but just aren't loving the great British winters. Protect your Olives in permanent plantings with windbreaks and fleeces. If it's potted then move your pot under glass.

Geranium

They need keeping in a frost free greenhouse. Lift undamaged plants from the garden, trim them back, pot them up and bring them in. You can take cuttings and prune them in spring.

Tree Ferns

Large tree ferns should be wrapped up. You can wrap the entire plant in fleece by tying the fronds upright and double layer them in horticultural fleece. Protect the roots with mulch.

Banana

In milder areas, the hardier banana, can withstand a milder winter, especially with a mulch spread over the roots and a thatch of straw to protect the crown.

In colder regions, a hard winter or more tender species like Ensete ventriosum, you will need to lift and pot them. You will need to move them under glass for the winter.

Climbers

There are a few tender climbers that require wrapping over the colder spells. Climbing against a warm wall offers some protection but they also benefit from having their stems packed with straw and then being further wrapped in hessian or fleece to hold it all in place.

Examples of tender climbers include Passiflora Mollissima, eccremocarpus, Solanum jasminoides.

Come in to the outlet to discuss your wrapping needs and buy fleece wrap per meter.
