Description

Basil Sweet is a popular herb that is widely used in cooking for its sweet and aromatic flavor. This variety of basil is easy to grow and produces an abundance of leaves that can be used fresh or dried. The seeds are small and black, and can be sown indoors or outdoors in the UK.

To sow Basil Sweet seeds indoors, fill a small pot with seed compost and water it lightly. Scatter the seeds on top of the compost and cover them with a thin layer of vermiculite or compost. Place the pot in a warm, bright spot, such as a windowsill, and keep the compost moist but not waterlogged. The seeds should germinate within 7-14 days.

To sow Basil Sweet seeds outdoors, wait until the soil has warmed up in late spring or early summer. Choose a sunny spot with well-drained soil and rake the surface to create a fine tilth. Scatter the seeds thinly over the surface and cover them with a thin layer of soil. Water the area gently and keep the soil moist until the seedlings emerge.

Once the seedlings have emerged, thin them out to leave the strongest plants. Basil Sweet prefers a warm, sheltered spot with plenty of sunlight and regular watering. Pinch out the tips of the plants to encourage bushy growth and harvest the leaves as required. The leaves can be used fresh or dried, and are perfect for adding flavor to salads, pasta dishes, and sauces.
